School Closings
On certain days during the winter months, safety becomes a concern and school must be closed. Administration will attempt to make this decision to close school by the 6 PM or 10 PM newscast the day before, or by 5:30 AM that morning. The principals and staff are notified through Texcaster or calling trees. The quickest way to be alerted of school closings is to sign up for USD 113 Text Message Alerts. Instructions for signing up for Text Alerts is on the USD 113 website (www.usd113.org) under Current Highlights.
School closings are aired on the following:
Radio:
KNZA 103.9 FM KTNC 1230 AM
KMZA 92.1 FM WIBW 580 AM
KLZA 101.3 FM KNDY 95.5 FM
Television:
WIBW 13 (CBS) www.wibwnewsnow.com.
KSNT 27 (NBC)
KTKA 49 (ABC)
KOLN 10-11 (Lincoln)
Most TV stations are set up for notification by Internet. Should the weather be so bad that the Internet is down it would be best to listen to the radio. There may be occasions when just part of the USD #113 district will be closed.
There are some mornings that just a few roads are not safe or cannot be used because of drifts. On these mornings snow routes are established and have been adopted by the board. These routes will be announced on the radio and television just as normal snow information is made to the public. If we have a snow route in the morning , we will try, if at all possible, to get students to their homes on the p.m. route. The snow routes give us an opportunity to provide education on a day when only a few are affected. For more information, please contact your bus driver or superintendent Todd Evans at evanst@usd113.org or (785) 284-2175.
